DIY: Make your own Advent calendar for your dog

December is the month of coziness, treats, and little surprises, and of course, your dog is a must! 🐶💛
How fun would it be to make your own Advent calendar for your four-legged friend this year? This way, they can count down to Christmas with you, each day with a treat or something fun from their own little bag.

In this blog post, we'll show you how to easily make a DIY Advent calendar for your dog using jute bags, a rack, and some Christmas supplies you probably already have at home.

What do you need?

You don't need expensive materials; the crafting and personalizing is what makes it so much fun!

Supplies:

  • 24 jute bags (or small cloth bags)

  • A rack to hang the bags on

  • Rope or ribbon (Christmas ribbon is extra festive!)

  • Clothes pegs or hooks

  • Cards (DIY) or wooden hangers with the numbers 1 to 24 on them
  • Some Christmas decorations such as pine branches, stars or (mini) Christmas balls

  • And of course... dog treats and/or toys! 🎁🐾

How to make the Advent calendar

Step 1 – Choose your base
Use a rack or ladder. You can lean it against the wall or hang it up.

Step 2 – Decorate your calendar
Wrap a string of lights or some Christmas greenery around it. Use whatever you already have, it doesn't have to be perfect; that homey touch makes it cozy.

Step 3 – Fill the bags
Fill the 24 jute bags with small surprises. Think of:

  • Dog snacks

  • Mini toys

  • A new bandana or medal

  • A note card with a fun activity ("extra long walk today!")

💡 Tip: Use reusable bags, so you can refill them every year.

Step 4 – Hang everything up
Attach the bags to the rack with string or hooks. Number them 1 through 24 with wooden labels or paper tags.

Step 5 – Enjoy the countdown!
Every morning (or evening) your dog gets to open one bag, and that moment is just as much fun for you as it is for them! 🎄🐶

Need more ideas? Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Mini cookies or trainers

  • A licking mat or chewing snack

  • A new dog tag or key ring with his name

  • A little hug

  • A Christmas bandana or bow tie

This way you can turn every day into a little celebration.

Why this is so fun

An advent calendar for your dog is not only a creative DIY project, but also a way to consciously spend time together.
Your dog enjoys the surprises, and you enjoy creating and celebrating those little moments together, which is exactly what Christmas is all about.
